Version 1.0

Thank you for contributing to NimbusKV. This agreement lets the project accept your contribution while keeping clear ownership of the codebase, so NimbusKV can stay free under the Apache License 2.0 and can also be offered under other terms (for example, commercial licenses) in the future.

You keep the copyright in your contribution. You are giving the project a broad license to use it, not transferring ownership.

1. Definitions#

  • "Maintainer" means Hemanshu Vaidya, the owner of the NimbusKV project, and any successor or assignee of the NimbusKV project.
  • "You" means the individual, or the legal entity on whose behalf the individual signs, who submits a Contribution.
  • "Contribution" means any code, documentation, or other material that You submit to the NimbusKV project (for example, through a pull request, patch, or issue) and intend to be included in it.

You grant the Maintainer, and anyone who receives software distributed by the Maintainer, a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, no-charge, royalty-free, irrevocable license to reproduce, prepare derivative works of, publicly display, publicly perform, sublicense, and distribute Your Contributions and derivative works of them, under any license terms, including proprietary or commercial terms.

3. Patent license#

You grant the Maintainer, and anyone who receives software distributed by the Maintainer, a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, no-charge, royalty-free, irrevocable patent license to make, use, sell, offer for sale, import, and otherwise transfer Your Contributions, for any patent claims You can license that are necessarily infringed by Your Contribution alone or in combination with NimbusKV.

4. Your promises#

You confirm that:

  1. You have the legal right to grant the licenses above. If your employer or anyone else has rights in the Contribution (for example, under an employment contract), you have their permission, or they have signed this agreement.
  2. The Contribution is your original work, or you have clearly identified any part of it that is not, along with its source and license.
  3. To your knowledge, the Contribution does not violate anyone else's rights.

5. No obligation#

The Maintainer is not required to use or include Your Contribution. Contributions are provided "AS IS", without warranties of any kind, except as stated in section 4.

6. How to sign#

Comment on your pull request with this exact sentence:

Note

I have read the NimbusKV CLA (version 1.0) and I agree to its terms.

Signing once covers all your future contributions, unless this agreement is updated to a new version.

This agreement has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer. The Maintainer intends to have it reviewed; the version in this repository at the time you sign is the one that applies to you.
